On Friday, Birth to Five Region 21 held a grand opening ceremony for its office in Vienna, Illinois. Birth to Five aims to build equitable access to inclusive, high-quality early childhood services for all children and families.

Pope County under burn ban effective immediately

POPE COUNTY, IL — The Pope County sheriff's department issued an open fire burn ban for the county until further notice. There have been three field fires in the last few days, according to the sheriff's department news release. One was from unknown causes, and the other two were caused by hay bales catching on fire.

Body found Sunday in West City ID’d as West Frankfort man

WEST CITY, Ill. (WJPF) — A dead body, found earlier this month in West City, has been identified. West City Chief of Police Jon Graskewicz says Ryan Halaska, 35, of West Frankfort has been identified as the victim. His remains were found on September 25 in a wooded area near the 900 block of West Washington Street.

Firefighters respond to gasoline tanker fire on Highway 60

Butler County Firefighters spent six hours Wednesday night into Thursday morning containing a fire involving a 2019 Mack Conventional tanker truck hauling gasoline. The accident occurred on Highway 60 near the Highway Z overpass and County Road 581. 70-year-old Terry Ehrhardt, of Harrisburg, Illinois, who was driving the tanker truck, suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. The second vehicle, a 2005 Ford F350, was driven by 23-year-old Tyler Gibbs, of Elsinore. Gibbs was uninjured. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports said the crash occurred as Ehrhardt’s vehicle struck the back of Gibbs’ truck before traveling off the left side of the roadway and overturning. Fall Kidsignment Expo begins in Marion

MARION, Ill. (KBSI) – The semi-annual Kidsignment Expo began Thursday, Sept. 29 at The Pavilion in Marion. Consigners brought in new and gently used kids’ items to sell at discounted prices. Items range from clothes to toys to rockers and more. Those selling the products at the Kidsignment Expo keep 70 percent of all sales.

Dispute over Democratic candidate for Williamson County State's Attorney heads to appellate court, county GOP says

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL — The issue of whether state's attorney candidate Marsha "Marcy" Cascio-Hale's name will be on the ballot in November in Williamson County, Illinois, will be heard by an appellate court. This, after a judge overturned a decision from the Williamson County Electoral Board to remove her from the general election ballot.

Judge rejects objection to Williamson County State's Attorney's candidacy

A Williamson County judge has tossed out an objection to Democrat Marcy Cascio-Hale's candidacy. County Republicans objected to Cascio-Hale's placement on the ballot, questioning both her nominating papers, and the way Democrats selected her. Initially, the county's Election Board agreed on one count, but denied the other. Cascio-Hale appealed, and the case was heard in circuit court this week.

Marion, IL woman arrested on drug charges

A Marion, IL woman has been arrested for possessing large quantities of meth and fentanyl. 32-year-old Lacy Wagner was arrested Friday at her home in the 700 block of Circle Drive. Marion Police say their investigation began in mid-2021 when a confidential source was able to buy fentanyl multiple times from Wagner. Police arrested Wagner in September of 2021 and identified her supplier in St. Louis. Wagner was later released on bond. Earlier this year, Marion Police say Wagner again began traveling to St. Louis to buy illegal drugs. On Friday, officers learned Wagner had left the state for another trip to St. Louis and waited at her home for her to return. When she did, she was found in possession of 4 ounces of meth and 3 ounces of fentanyl. Police also seized her vehicle and an undisclosed amount of cash. Lacy Wagner was taken to the Williamson County Jail on two counts of delivery of fentanyl within 500 feet of a park, possession of 100 – 400 grams of meth with the intent to deliver, and possession of 15 – 100 grams of fentanyl with the intent to deliver. She was taken to the Williamson County Jail.

Massac County rolls out crime-fighting app

MASSAC COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) The Massac County Sheriff’s Department has a new app geared toward fighting crime. “Yeah, we decided to come up with the app. Kind of a change over from the website. So, I wanted to kind of advance ourselves with with the times. People can use our app, too… you know for weather alerts, for inmate searches, firearms information, you name it we wanted to have all that on there kind of condensed in one place,” said Massac County Sheriff Chad Kaylor.

1 injured in crash on U.S. 60 in Butler Co.

BUTLER COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 60 east of Highway Z. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol traffic report, a 2019 semi truck hit the back of a 2005 Ford F350. The semi then traveled off of the left side of the road and overturned.

Two Arrested For Drug Possession

Two White County residents have been arrested following a traffic stop following the discovery of drugs in the vehicle they were driving. At around midnight Tuesday, an officer with the Carmi Police Department initiated a traffic stop in the parking lot of Rock Bottom on Main Street. The driver of the vehicle, 38 year old April Bolin of Norris City was taken into custody for driving on a suspended license and possession of cannabis in a motor vehicle. The passenger, 42 year old James Wiggins of Carmi was taken into custody for possession of cannabis in a motor vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful use of property.
