Ozarks Camera Club announces PhotoQuest contest

Returning to live venue events, the Lake Area Camera Club, in cooperation with the Lake Arts Council, will hold the 2021 Contest at the offices of the Lake Arts Council in the Stone Crest Mall. Photos must be received for judging at the office by August 2. This contest is to give amateur photographers earning less than $500 gross per year from photography (excluding contest winnings) an opportunity to exhibit their art and receive recognition for their work.

The Southern Stone County Fire Protection District had a busy Saturday as firefighters were called to two fires within 30 minutes of each other. A boat with two occupants was reported on fire near Point 14 at Table Rock Lake / Cape Fair Marina at 4:41 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, according to a press release from the SSCFPD.

Covid variant confirmed in Stone Co.

The first case of the India variant of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Stone County. In a press release on Monday, June 14, the Stone County Health Department confirmed the first case of the India variant (Delta or B.1.617) in Stone County. Genetic variants of COVID-19 have emerged and circulated through the state, but this is the first variant that is lab-confirmed in Stone County.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers closes swimming beach on Table Rock Lake

NEAR SHELL KNOB, Mo. (KY3) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers closed a popular swimming beach on Table Rock Lake after tests showed high levels of E. coli. The Stone County Health Department conducted testing at Campbell Point near Shell Knob. Officials posted signs on the beach recommending no swimming because of the high bacteria levels. Once bacteria levels are within the acceptable range, the swim beach will reopen.

Stone County residents and workers are being asked for their opinions on what they think are the most important issues facing the county’s economic growth. The Table Rock Lake Chamber of Commerce is conducting a survey to gather input as part of the process for creating an economic development strategic plan.

Stone Co. nonprofit supports sheriff’s department

A local nonprofit has devoted their volunteer efforts to help make a difference in the lives of the Stone County Sheriff’s Department deputies. According to their Facebook page, Stone County Citizens in Action is a group started by the first graduating class of the Stone County Sheriff’s Citizens Academy in 2014. After completing the 24 hour coursework, the graduates were motivated to continue working with the Stone County Sheriff’s Office as volunteer citizens to continue to make a difference in Stone County.
