COVID infections tick up; CDC’s new guidelines

Local COVID infections rose markedly this past week, with 14 new cases in Winona County — the most in nearly two months — eight new cases in Buffalo County, and seven cases in Trempealeau County. Also yesterday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) released new guidance, asking people to take greater precautions as the more infectious delta variant causes cases to rise nationwide. The CDC said fully vaccinated people in areas with “substantial” to “high” transmission — which currently includes Buffalo and Trempealeau counties — should wear face masks in indoor public settings. CDC guidelines continue to call on unvaccinated people to wear masks.

BUFFALO COUNTY, Wis. (WKBT) — A Buffalo City, Wis., man was injured in a motorcycle crash Sunday in Buffalo County, according to the sheriff’s office. The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office responded at about 5 p.m. to a motorcycle crash on Hwy. P near Pieper’s Valley Road in the town of Buffalo. Investigators say Dylan Meng, 22, was driving too fast on his 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he failed to negotiate a corner and left the road.
