One person shot Monday evening in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - Police are looking into an incident in South Bend on Monday evening where at least one man was shot. Dispatch tells 16 News Now that police responded to the 21-hundred block of Bertrand Street just after 9 PM, and found a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. His status at this time is unknown.

Dowagiac Police Investigate Saturday Shooting

Dowagiac police are looking for a man who they say shot his girlfriend on Saturday. The Dowagiac Police Department says officers were dispatched to parking lot near Dowagiac Liquor in the 900 block of Spruce Street around 10:30 p.m. on a report of a shooting. They found the victim was a 33-year-old Dowagiac woman. She was treated at the scene and then transported to a South Bend, Indiana hospital. She was listed in serious condition and is expected to survive. Police say she’d had a fight with her boyfriend, 45-year-old Robert J. Smith III, of Dowagiac. The woman was driving her vehicle through the parking lot and Smith allegedly was standing in the lot and fired shot several rounds into her vehicle. She was hit once. He then fled. Police say Smith should be considered armed and anyone with information about his location should contact them.

St. Joseph Commissioners Keeping Eye On Short Term Rental Legislation

There hasn’t been much action since July on a bill in the Michigan Legislature that would take away local control over short term rental properties, but St. Joseph City Manager John Hodgson says the bill could get moving again now that the state budget is finished. Friend of the Court Amnesty Day, Expungement and Resource Fair Planned By Michigan Works

Michigan Works of Berrien, Cass, Van Buren counties, along with the Berrien County Friend of the Court and other partners, is planning a Friend of the Court Amnesty Day, Expungement and Resource Fair. It’s for southwest Michigan residents looking to clear bench warrants, clear criminal records, look for jobs, and find access to other services. The event will be on Tuesday, October 5 from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Michigan Works office on Main Street in Benton Harbor.
