Community offers variety of kids’ activities for the summer

A couple of different weather services are showing that Stephens County hit 100 degrees on Sunday, so it seems that summer is here, even though the official First Day of Summer isn’t until Sunday, June 20. The kids have been out of school a couple of weeks, and they’re probably bored by now. Fortunately, there are quite a few kids’ activities planned for the summer, ranging from art to sports.

District Attorney releases list of plea deals for March, April and May

Stephens County District Attorney Dee Peavy’s office recently released the following list of plea deals that were made in the 90th Judicial District Court. Stetson Anthony Garner, 29, Breckenridge, pleaded guilty to the offense of Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver Four Grams or More but Less Than 200 Grams – Methamphetamine and was sentenced to 25 years confinement in Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institution Division (TDCJ-ID), and to pay $5,000 fine, restitution, and court costs.

Pfluger represents Texas’ Congressional District 11, which encompasses 29 counties, including the lower half of Stephens County and the counties of Andrews, Brown, Callahan, Coke, Coleman, Comanche, Concho, Dawson, Eastland, Ector, Erath, Glasscock, Hood, Irion, Kimble, Llano, Martin, Mason, McCulloch, Menard, Midland, Mills, Mitchell, Palo Pinto, Runnels, San Saba, Sterling and Tom Green. Annual ceremony honors deceased Stephens County veterans

Although heavy rains in the early morning hours and afternoon of Monday, May 31, led to localized flooding, there was a temporary halt in the rainfall just in time for family, friends and others to gather with members of VFW Post 7767 and its auxiliary on the southwest corner of the Stephens County Courthouse lawn to honor the local U.S. military veterans who passed away last year.

County Judge to issue disaster declaration for Stephens County due to flooding

Following heavy rain in the area, some Breckenridge residents were evacuated from their homes this evening, Monday, May 31, and more evacuations could be in store for the community as rainwater from around the area continues to flow into local creeks, rivers and lakes. Two Breckenridge men arrested on Manslaughter charges from separate vehicle accidents

Earlier this month, Breckenridge police arrested two local men on manslaughter charges in connection with two separate vehicle accidents that happened in April 2020. According to an arrest report by the Breckenridge Police Department, on Monday, May 17, 2021, officer Noah Gray arrested Ricardo Alberto Perez, 25, on a Stephens County warrant for manslaughter. The next day, Police Chief Bacel Cantrell arrested Mitchell Wayne Stewart, 31, on three Taylor County warrants for intoxicated manslaughter, intoxicated assault and DWI with a child, the report states.
