Three WA road projects begin today

Drivers need to plan for added travel time as three road construction projects kick into high gear today (Monday) in the Tri-Cities and Walla Walla County. In Pasco, crews from the Washington State Department of Transportation will inspect the overpass this week on US 395 near Lewis Street. WSDOT will close a lane on southbound US 395 as well as the southbound on-ramp at Lewis Street between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. today (Monday) and tomorrow. Then on Wednesday and Thursday, between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., crews will close a lane on northbound US 395 and the northbound on-ramp to Columbia Drive.

State Grant Funding More Water Upgrades

(LaCrosse, IN) - The Town of LaCrosse has been awarded a $3.27 million grant to continue improving its aging water system. The funding from the Indiana State Revolving Fund will allow for the completion of the next phase of improvements to the system installed roughly 60 years ago, officials said.

Assessing Monkeypox threat in the greater Walla Walla community

On Aug. 21, the Whitman Office of Communications sent out a Whitman Today email saying that Walla Walla County had detected its first probable case of monkeypox (MPV). MPV—a member of the same virus family as smallpox—can cause painful skin lesions resembling blisters or pimples. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website, these rashes typically last two to four weeks and are often accompanied by other symptoms including fever, chills, fatigue and body aches.

Report: Inmate who died left a suicide note

The Washington State Patrol has completed its investigation of an inmate death at the Garfield County Jail that occurred in the spring. Inmate Kyle L. Lara, 36, died April 13 while in custody at the Pomeroy facility in a cell that is supposed to be monitored by the Garfield County dispatchers via video. According to the report, Lara was the lone occupant in an isolated “female” cell “due to fighting with other inmates.”
