JOHNSON CITY, Kan. (KAKE) - A 57-year-old man was killed when his pickup truck crashed into the back of a semi and caught on fire on a southwest Kansas highway. The accident happened at around 9:45 a.m. Monday on U.S. 160 about 5.5 miles west of K-27 in Stanton County. The Kansas Highway Patrol says Dennis Duwayne Davis was heading west when a semi in front of him was slowing to turn right onto a service road. Davis' truck rear-ended the semi, slid to a stop and caught fire.

A 2009 GMC semi truck being driven by Zachary Wester, 33, of Moscow KS was westbound on US 160 at approximately mile marker 23.3, and was slowing to turn north onto a service road. A 2006 Chevy Truck being driven by Dennis Duwayne Davis, 57, of Pierceville KS, was westbound on US 160 approaching the semi from the rear. Davis struck The semi in the rear and slid to a stop on the north shoulder of US 160 at the entrance to the service road. The Chevy truck then caught on fire with driver one trapped inside.

A GMC Semi drove by Zach Wester, 33, Moscow, was westbound on U160 at approximate mile marker 23 slowing down to turn north onto a service road. A 2006 Chevy Silverado driven by Dennis Davis, 57, Piercville, was westbound on U160 and struck the rear of the Semi. The Silverado slid to a stop on the north shoulder of U160 at the entrance to the service road. The Siilveradoone then caught on fire with d trapped inside.
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A 57-year-old man was killed after his truck caught on fire, trapping him inside after he rear-ended another vehicle on U160 in Stanton Co. The truck driven by Dennis Davis of Pierceville was westbound on U160 when it struck a semi in the rear. Davis’ truck slid to a stop on the north shoulder at the entrance to a service road. Then the truck caught on fire with Pierceville trapped inside. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Frank N. Hoopingarner, 78, passed away on Monday, April 25th, 2022, at Stanton County Hospital, Johnson, KS, after a lengthy illness. Frank was born to Dwight and Julia Hoopingarner on March 8th, 1944, in Elkhart, KS. Frank attended all 12 school years with the Manter school district. Frank spent a year at K-State in Manhattan, KS, where he met Barbara Kennedy. Frank served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany as a military policeman.
