ST LUCIE COUNTY, FL- The Florida Department of Health in St. Lucie County (DOH-St. Lucie) is urging all residents and visitors, especially those that are spending time outdoors, to protect themselves from mosquito and tick bites this summer season. While most tick and mosquito bites are only an annoyance, sometimes these bites can be dangerous. Preventing bites reduces the risk of a person getting infected with a mosquito- or tick-borne disease.

St. Lucie County libraries go fine-free, hoping to become more accessible to more people

ST. LUCIE COUNTY — The library system here has become one of the first in Florida to pioneer a growing trend: eliminating fines for overdue books and other materials. The libraries previously charged patrons 10 cents a day for overdue items, up to $10. Existing fines were canceled when the policy went into effect May 5, but overdue notices still will be sent if borrowers are late returning their materials.
