In case you missed it, here are the top stories from the past week at St. Johns County commissioners on Tuesday approved expanding SilverLeaf, already one of the largest developments unfolding in the county, by 5,600 housing units and another 250,000 square feet of office space. By a 4-1 vote, with Commissioner Paul Waldron opposed, the commission approved Comprehensive Plan changes for 2,394 acres of land that will be added to the development.

This Week in St. Johns County History: Henry Flagler's body laid to rest in St. Augustine

Editor's note: The Associated Press wrote this report from the Henry M. Flagler funeral procession on May 23, 1913. The body of Henry Morrison Flagler was placed in a mausoleum of the Flagler Memorial Church, after simple funeral exercises had been held in memory of the octogenarian millionaire May 23, 1913, in St. Augustine. Flagler died May 20, 1913, at his home in Palm Beach at the age of 83.

'No Mow May' is a growing trend to help bees and not cut the lawn

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — There are nearly 100 species of bees in North East Florida and all them could use your help. Beekeepers are encouraging homeowners to participate in a growing trend happening across the nation. All they have to do is not mow the lawn as much. Hence the movement "No Mow May", a trend that started in the United Kingdom.

Mickler’s Landing Beachfront Park reopening Saturday

St. Johns County, FL — In an update Thursday, St. Johns County announced Mickler’s Landing Beachfront Park will reopen Saturday instead of Friday as crews working on the FEMA Dune Enhancement project will be leaving the area. We’re told crews will be leaving the area by the end of the day Friday and heading to a different beach access point to continue the project.

Another record low for Northeast Florida unemployment

Jacksonville’s unemployment rate fell to another record low in April with businesses in just about every industry adding to their payrolls. The unemployment rate in the Jacksonville metropolitan area of Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties dropped from 2.5% in March to 2.2% in April, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity reported May 20.
