The 23rd Judicial District Attorney's Office, which includes the parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James, reported guilty pleas during the week of June 20 to June 24. Brandon Deamer, 5930 Ingram Dr. Baton Rouge, LA, age 33, pled guilty to Theft Valued at $1,000 or More, but Less than $5,000. The defendant was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

LA 3274 (ST. JAMES PARISH) LANE CLOSURE

LA 3274 (St. James Parish) – There will be an eastbound lane closure on LA 3274 near US 61 from 7:00 AM on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 until 5:00 PM on Thursday, June 30, 2022. This lane closure is necessary for Atmos to complete work in the area that requires them to bore under the railroad track.

Release of booking photos should have restrictions

On June 16, Governor John Bel Edwards signed Act No. 494 into law, restricting law enforcement agencies from publishing booking photos for most offenses. The St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office quickly notified the public that they would not be posting booking photos unless the charges fall within the exceptions outlined in the law. The knee jerk reaction in the comments was that the public was being deprived of its right to be informed in favor of “protecting the criminals.”

LAPLACE — The River Parishes Tourist Commission is the destination marketing and management organization for St. Charles, St. John the Baptist and St. James parishes. “In 1999, our legislators decided that the three parishes together here in the River Parishes needed to be one tourist commission,” Executive Director Jay Robichaux said. “Every parish has a tourist commission. We are the only one that represents three parishes.”
