Two Monday Arrests for the Carmi Police Department

A New Haven woman is scheduled to appear in court on theft charges. On Monday, August 8th, 21 year old Shayla Grove of 1051 Vine Street in New Haven was arrested in the lobby of the Carmi Police Department on a White County warrant for Theft under $300. Grove was booked in the White County Jail where bond was set at $250. She paid bond and was released. A court date for Grove has been set for September 6th at 9:00 AM.

Carmi Police Department Weekend Report

The Carmi Police Department has arrested a Carmi man for driving on a suspended license. On Friday, August 5th officers stopped 26 year old Alton A Folz of 800 W Fackney Street and took him into custody for driving on a suspended license and possession of cannabis in a motor vehicle. Folz paid$250 bond and was released. A court date has been set for September 6th.

Wolford Arrested for Disorderly Conduct

Making false 911 calls has landed a Carmi man in the White County Jail. On Friday, August 5th, the Carmi Police Department and White County Ambulance Service were dispatched to the Carmi Motel in regards to an injured male. Donald Wolford, 58 of 1008 W Main Street, room 40 called 911 and made false injury reports but when the officers arrived and realized there was no such emergency, Wolford was arrested for Disorderly Conduct. Wolford is being held in the White County Jail without bond.

According to Scott Petrak, the Browns are signing LB Jordan Kunaszyk and waiving LB Silas Kelly. Kunaszyk, 25, wound up going undrafted out of California back in 2019. He later signed a three-year, $1.755 million contract with the Panthers and managed to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason.

McLeansboro City Council Set to Meet Tuesday

The McLeansboro City Council is set to gather Tuesday night on 102 West Main Street at City Hall and they have a full agenda planned for the evening. Along with the swearing in of the newly appointed Alderman for Ward #3, they will also be discussing granting approval to allow a double wide trailer at 201 South Douglas. They’ll be discussing approving a location for the Historical Society’s Jail as well as updating swimming pool regulations and potentially authorizing a handful of Resolutions. They’ll discuss approving a TIF reimbursement for McLeansboro Space Center and for MC Sales, LLC. The council will also discuss approving changes to the City of McLeansboro Code Book. The meeting is set to begin at 6PM.

MT. VERNON, IL — A 61-year-old man Bonnie once recognized on a local TV station as an ‘Unsung Hero” for his work with the Mt. Vernon Christian Outreach and Resale shop pleaded guilty Wednesday in Jefferson County Court to stealing from that business. William “Bill” Norton was arrested May of 2018 after detectives from the Mt. Vernon Police Department went to 330 W. Sledge Street in Bonnie to speak with him.

Stephanie Ann Fortner

Stephanie Ann Fortner, 70, of Carmi, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at Deaconess Gateway Heart Hospital, in Newburgh, Indiana. She was born on February 8, 1952, the daughter of Rev. Robert Edward and Bettye Jean (Watson) Fortner. Stephanie worked as a caregiver and also was an artist who worked in sculpting. She enjoyed the arts, going to Disney world, and being with friends and family. Stephanie was a kid at heart and a dreamer.

Nancy Louise Epperson

Nancy Louise Epperson passed away on August 5, 2022 . Nancy was born in McLeansboro Illinois on May 11, 1947 to Evans and Marjorie Williams who preceded her in death. She married her high school sweetheart and husband of 55 years, John Stephen Epperson at Blooming Grove church on August 28, 1966. Besides her husband, Nancy is survived by their two sons, Mark Stephen Epperson and wife Christina and Justin William Epperson and wife Melissa, all of McLeansboro. She is also survived by three grandsons, Brendan Epperson, Derrick Epperson, and Cade Epperson as well as a sister, Brenda Waara and brother Bruce Williams and wife Linda.

Criminal Damage to Property Reported out of Burnt Prairie

The White County Sheriff’s Department received a report of Criminal Damage to Property on Monday, August 1st from a Burnt Prairie resident. Amber Walkenbach reported to the department that she had been a victim of an intended criminal damage to property offense. She showed the Reporting Officer a plastic bag of nails and homemade nail spikes that she had picked up out of the driveway of where she was staying. This incident is still under investigation.

Burglary Reported in Crossville

Another report was filed to the White County Sheriff’s Department, this time a burglary report out of Crossville. On Thursday, August 4th, Sonia Churchwell reported that a burglary had taken place at her residence. She stated that at some point during the week an unknown subject or subjects entered her residence without her permission. When she returned she noticed that her TV had been stolen and that her belongings had been rifled through. She also noted that some snack food had been taken from its box in the kitchen. No further information about this incident has been made available at this time.

Illinois back to school tax holiday takes effect

FAIRFIELD, Ill. (WEHT) – The state of Illinois has began it’s a back to school tax holiday which will decrease taxes on school supplies. The state sales tax on school supplies will drop 6.25 percent to 1.25 percent between August 5-14th. This is the first time the state has done this in over a decade.

Wease Arrested on Multiple Charges

A Carmi woman was arrested Wednesday evening on charges of Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Unlawful Use of Property at Wal-Mart. 40 year old Maryanne Wease was arrested at around 6pm Wednesday night by the Carmi Police Department. She was then transported to the White County Jail, she is currently being held without bond.
