Orrin Rongstad

Orrin Rongstad, age 91, of Middleton, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022. He was born on April 22, 1931, in York, Wis., to Johnny and Cora Rongstad, the fourth of six children. Orrin graduated from Osseo High School as valedictorian in 1949 and then attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire until 1952, when he joined the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from the Air Force Officers Candidate School in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1957. Orrin then continued his studies at the University of Minnesota with a degree in Wildlife Management and furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin with a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Wildlife Ecology and Zoology in 1965.

LaVera “Lolly” Dickinson

LaVera “Lolly” (Dybdahl) Dickinson, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. She was born on July 23, 1931, to Clayton and Laura (Danz) Garfoot in Richland Center, Wis. When she was still young, the family moved to Black Earth, Wis., where she spent the rest of her childhood, attending elementary and high school there. She graduated from Fairview Hospital Nursing School in Minneapolis, Minn., where she received her nursing pin on May 23, 1953. She continued with a successful career in nursing, organizing the first poliomyelitis vaccination campaign for Mount Horeb, working as a staff nurse in surgery and surgical intensive care, and was eventually promoted to the position of Epilepsy Specialty Nurse at the Francis M. Forster regional VA Epilepsy Center where she had papers published in respected neurology and epilepsy journals, all while raising four children. After retiring, she participated in a mission to Jamaica and helped with the health screenings of children in an orphanage.

Officials Respond to Possible Chimney Fire

Iowa County authorities received a call for an address in the 5000 block of Korback Road in Spring Green for a report of a lightning strike that possibly hit a chimney at around 1:45 PM Sunday. Dodgeville Fire and Dodgeville EMS responded to the scene. Some debris was found on the deck, however no fire or injuries were reported.

Dane County home worth $450,000 likely a total loss after fire

TOWN OF SPRINGDALE, Wis. (WMTV) - A home in Dane County worth $450,000 will likely become a total loss after a fire claimed the residence Monday evening. Dane County Sheriff’s Office deputies, along with officers from the Mount Horeb Police Department, were called to the scene in the 2000 block of Town Hall Rd. in the Town of Springdale, along with multiple Fire and EMS units.

Baraboo police warn of catalytic converter thefts

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The Baraboo Police Department is warning residents about a rash of overnight catalytic converter thefts that swept through the area into Monday morning. According to the police department, the incidents happened mainly west of Broadway between 1st and 4th Avenues, with many of them happening in the West Square Building parking lot. Investigators hope to glean information about the suspects from surveillance cameras for the lot.
