Orrin Rongstad, age 91, of Middleton, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022. He was born on April 22, 1931, in York, Wis., to Johnny and Cora Rongstad, the fourth of six children. Orrin graduated from Osseo High School as valedictorian in 1949 and then attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire until 1952, when he joined the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from the Air Force Officers Candidate School in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1957. Orrin then continued his studies at the University of Minnesota with a degree in Wildlife Management and furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin with a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Wildlife Ecology and Zoology in 1965.

LaVera “Lolly” (Dybdahl) Dickinson, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. She was born on July 23, 1931, to Clayton and Laura (Danz) Garfoot in Richland Center, Wis. When she was still young, the family moved to Black Earth, Wis., where she spent the rest of her childhood, attending elementary and high school there. She graduated from Fairview Hospital Nursing School in Minneapolis, Minn., where she received her nursing pin on May 23, 1953. She continued with a successful career in nursing, organizing the first poliomyelitis vaccination campaign for Mount Horeb, working as a staff nurse in surgery and surgical intensive care, and was eventually promoted to the position of Epilepsy Specialty Nurse at the Francis M. Forster regional VA Epilepsy Center where she had papers published in respected neurology and epilepsy journals, all while raising four children. After retiring, she participated in a mission to Jamaica and helped with the health screenings of children in an orphanage.

BARABOO, Wis. — Baraboo police are investigating after multiple catalytic converters were stolen Sunday night and early Monday. Police said that the thefts took place west of Broadway between 1st and 4th Avenues as well as in the West Square Building parking lot. Officers requested surveillance footage from the building to try and identify the thieves.
