Mayor Mueller Announces New Neighborhood Homes Initiative

June 24, 2022 — Mayor James Mueller, along with Public Works Director Eric Horvath and Common Council leaders Sheila Niezgodski and Canneth Lee, announced a New Neighborhood Homes Initiative. The initiative’s first steps include policy changes for utility connection fees and a new reimbursement program for the costs of physical connections to water and sewer services. These steps will support the development of more affordable housing in neighborhoods across the city.

Final Phase of Olive Street Pavement Project Begins Monday, June 27

June 17, 2022 — The final phase of construction for the Olive Street Pavement Replacement Project is expected to get underway Monday, June 27. The project includes the replacement of the concrete pavement on Olive Street from Indiana Court to Tucker Drive. Improvements include new curb ramps, storm sewers, driveway approaches, multipurpose trail on the east side of the street and an upgraded railroad crossing.

CITY TO HOLD PUBLIC INFORMATION SESSION TO INTRODUCE CONTRACTOR AND TIMELINE FOR REMEDIATION OF LASALLE PARK AND BECK’S LAKE SITE

June 15, 2022 — The City of South Bend announced today that it will hold a public information session to introduce the contractor selected and the timeline for the remediation work at the Lasalle Park/Beck’s Lake site. The public information session will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at 6 p.m. at the Charles Black Community Center, 3419 West Washington Street. Boil Water Advisory Issued for Customers Northeast of South Bend

Due to a loss of pressure in its water distribution system earlier today, the City of South Bend has issued a precautionary boil water advisory through 2:00 pm on Monday, May 16 for customers northeast of South Bend. The area of concern is for customers bordered by Auten Road on the north, Cleveland Road on the south, Ironwood Road on the west and Hickory Road on the east. Customers in other parts of the city are not affected and do not need to boil their water. The City provides water and sewer services to various areas in the county outside city limits.

City’s 2022 Paving Season Gets Underway

April 28, 2022 — The City of South Bend’s Rebuilding Our Streets Plan is paving the way for another busy construction season. During the second year of the Plan, the City will address 113 streets with milling and asphalt resurfacing, full reconstruction or brick spot repair. Additional streets will see preventative maintenance measures such as crack sealing and microsurfacing. Residents can follow the progress of paving work at southbendin.gov/paving.

Sample Street to Close Tuesday, April 26

April 22, 2022 — On Tuesday, April 26, Sample Street from Mayflower Road to Ford Street will be closed for NIPSCO to perform maintenance work on their gas line. Access will be maintained to all businesses in the impacted areas. The street is expected to reopen end of day Thursday, May 19, weather permitting.

April 21, 2022 — The City of South Bend’s Department of Public Works is now accepting applications for the 2022 Curb & Sidewalk Reimbursement Program, which assists property owners in making repairs to curbs, sidewalks and ADA curb ramps abutting their properties.
