New Survey Reveals Wages in Northern Indiana

SOUTH BEND - The results of a new survey of employers in northern Indiana and southwest Michigan show more than 60% added workers in the last six months and 80% are planning to add even more staff still this year. The South Bend – Elkhart Regional Partnership commissioned the survey, which also looks at compensation levels and practices of 143 companies who employ collectively more than 40,000 workers in the eight-county region.

Apartment planners seek financing agreement with city

GOSHEN — The city can negotiate financing with the developers of a new apartment complex after a vote by the Goshen Redevelopment Commission. The board voted Tuesday to let city staff try to work out an agreement with Greenwood Rental Properties LLC, which plans to build a complex with 60 market-rate apartments at the corner of Plymouth and Indiana avenues. The estimated $11.5 million project would meet a keenly felt need for housing in the city, supporters argued.

MEC accepting applications for Strengthening Schools Grant program

CASSOPOLIS — Applications are now open for an annual grant program. Midwest Energy and Communications is now accepting applications for the 2021-22 Strengthening Schools Grant program. For the 2020-21 year, MEC awarded 26 grants totaling $30,000 across its electric service territory. Grants are funded with partnership dollars from Wolverine Power Cooperative, MEC’s power supplier.

Latest wage-benefits report finds optimistic hiring outlook for North Central Indiana region

Advanced manufacturing and transportation and related industries are showing no signs of slowing in North Central Indiana. These major employment sectors as well as several others, showed growth in the 2021 Wages and Benefits Report released by the South Bend-Elkhart Regional Partnership, an economic development organization. The report, which is compiled biannually, found about 60% of participating companies added workers the past six months with 80% planning additional hiring this year.
