POLICE NEWS: Construction worker injured in highway crash

A Rieth-Riley employee was injured when he was struck by a car while on the job south of Logansport on Wednesday morning. Charles Davis, Frankfort, was part of a highway work crew at a construction zone on U.S. 35 where he held a stop sign to help control traffic near C.R. 500 South in Cass County. While in the construction zone, a car driven by Yigermal Getachew, Indianapolis, rear-ended a pickup truck driven by James Paullus, Logansport, around 8:15 a.m. But in the process, Getachew had swerved, with the car glancing off the truck before striking Davis on the highway’s shoulder, the Indiana State Police said in a news release.

Single-vehicle crash kills teen, leaves two others injured

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – A single-vehicle crash on CR 108, east of CR 31, leaves two teens from Elkhart dead and another teen injured on Friday just after 8:30 pm. Deputies say that a 2008 Chevy Impala was driving east on CR 108 when the driver allegedly left the roadway and hit a tree.

(SOUTH BEND, IN) For bargain hunters there may be no better target than gas, with the cheapest station in the South Bend area offering savings of $0.41 per gallon. Phillips 66 at 3301 N Portage Ave was the cheapest station in the area, according to a survey by GasBuddy, with regular listed at $2.88 per gallon Wednesday. By comparison, the most expensive gallon was at Phillips 66 at 1831 E Day Rd, where a gallon of regular was selling for $3.29.

Baroda-Lake Township Police Department Holding Night Out Event

The Baroda-Lake Township Police Department will hold a National Night Out celebration this coming week. Police National Night Out is an event held around the country every summer for the public to have a chance to meet and interact with their local officers. In the case of the Baroda-Lake Township Police Department, the gathering will be at Lake Township Park on Gast Road on Tuesday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. On hand will be police offering food, games for the kids, a fire department Jaws of Life demonstration, and women’s self defense information.
