5-year-old northern Michigan boy fatally shot by another child

RAPID RIVER TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Authorities are investigating the death of a 5-year-old boy who was shot at his home in northern Michigan. The boy was shot by another child Monday at a rural home in Rapid River Township, about 30 miles east of Traverse City, said Kalkaska County Sheriff Pat Whiteford.

Airport Road Closure Set for Thursday and Monday

(August 3, 2021 12:19 PM) The Jackson County Department of Transportation will close Airport Road to through traffic between Wildwood Avenue and Laurence Avenue on Thursday, August 5, 2021 and Monday, August 9, 2021, weather permitting. Crews will be cutting and removing driveways and performing drainage work in preparation for road construction. Airport Road will reopen at the end of each day.

Live results: Voters pick Jackson mayor candidates, decide millages in Aug. 3 primary election

JACKSON, MI – Voters in Jackson and some Jackson County townships are casting their ballots in the Aug. 3 primary election. Five millages, for school districts and public safety, are on the ballot, along with four people seeking to become the city of Jackson’s next mayor. Two of them will move on to the Nov. 2 general election in hopes of succeeding current Mayor Derek Dobies, who decided to not to seek re-election.

Jackson County man burned in workshop fire dies from injuries, officials say

JACKSON COUNTY, MI -- A Jackson County man has died from severe burns he suffered when the workshop at his business caught fire. Lonnie Miller, owner of Lonnie’s Hauling & Tree Service in Henrietta Township, died July 28 from complications of thermal burns he suffered during the July 14 fire, said Kristin LaMaire, Washtenaw County Medical Examiner administrative assistant.
