Columbus man sentenced to 5 years in prison for gun trafficking

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - A convicted felon with a lengthy criminal history in Columbus was sentenced to federal prison today after an investigation into gun trafficking. 47-year-old Maurice Toney of Columbus was sentenced to serve just over years in federal prison to be followed by three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to climb at EAMC; Mobile hospital has highest number of COVID-19 patients

Hospitalizations of patients with confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 continue to climb at East Alabama Health, which includes East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and EAMC-Lanier in Valley. According to numbers released by EAMC on Friday, the total number of hospitalizations has reached 34, up from 30 on Monday and more than four times the count at the start of the month, which was eight.

Here’s the cheapest gas in Columbus Saturday

(COLUMBUS, GA) For bargain hunters there may be no better target than gas, with the cheapest station in the Columbus area offering savings of $0.37 per gallon. According to a survey by GasBuddy, Walmart Neighborhood Market at 3866 Us-80 W was the cheapest station in the area, with regular listed at $2.72 per gallon at the pumps Wednesday. That was compared to Chevron at 3711 Macon Rd, where a gallon of regular was selling for $3.09.
