CMRLS ANNOUNCES IN-PERSON SUMMER LIBRARY PROGRAMS

The Central Mississippi Regional Library System (CMRLS) is excited to announce that after two years of virtual Summer Library Programming; this year’s programs will be held in-person! The 2022 Summer Library Program theme is Oceans of Possibilities. From June 6 – July 15, all CMRLS libraries will host in-person programming. The goal during the summer library program each year is to encourage children to continue to read while out of school. Studies have proven that if they do not read during the summer months, children may lose much of the reading ability that they have worked so hard to achieve.

New Country Music Trail Marker to Recognize Smith County Jamboree

Jackson, Miss. (September 15, 2014) – On Friday, September 19, one of Mississippi’s longest-running country music festivals will be honored with the newest marker on the Mississippi Country Music Trail. The unveiling ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. at 6334 Highway 13 in Polkville, Miss., across the street from the Polkville Music Barn. This will be the 26th marker on the Mississippi Country Music Trail.

Jones College alumna and entrepreneur survives the odds; pays it forward

Wiggins resident and former Smith County native, Stephanie Smith is not only living proof of a miracle, but several miracles. The 40-year-old entrepreneur and mother of four children, ranging in ages from 16 to 7, could have died from a weak spot in a blood vessel in her brain that was miraculously caught before it burst. The Taylorsville native was dealing with hearing loss, vision problems and headaches when she sought help from a new doctor who discovered the brain aneurysm from an MRI. While pregnant with her daughter Kaitlynn, the then 27-year-old lost her hearing in one ear.
