Summerfest In Sleepy Eye

Sleepy Eye’s inaugural summer event kicks in high gear today, Summerfest has activities all day long. The event kick off on Monday with the 150th anniversary Medallion Hunt. The Medallion was found at Prairie View softball park, under a dugout bench. Today, Sleepy Eye Baseball Association is having burgers and beer at the ball park, from 11am till 5pm, stop in for burgers, hot dogs and more. To place a take out order, for anything on the menu, call 507-227-4227. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Sleepy Eye arena. Eagles park will have kids activities, music from the Sleepy eye Area Concertina Club and the Zooman. There will be an All School Reunion at the Sleepy Eye Brewery beginning at 5pm. Bail lowered for Willmar woman accused of assisting in the rape of 13-year-old

(Olivia MN-) Bail for a Renville County rape suspect was lowered yesterday. 20-year-old Kelsey Jones of Willmar is accused of helping Jordan Freitag rape a 13-year-old girl in Danube July 24th. In Renville County District Court yesterday, bail for Jones was lowered from 75,000 to 50,000 with conditions. Typically a 10% bond is required for released from jail. A settlement conference for Jones was set for August 26th at 1:30 p.m.

New Ulm City Council

The New Ulm City Council met Tuesday in chambers to consider the Home Rule charter amendments. Among the proposed amendments was the removal of the anti-nepotism language in the charter, plus adding language on conflict of interest. The council unanimously approved the first consideration of the amendment, removing the nepotism language. The amendment, made by the Charter Commission, took out the restriction on relatives of elected officials working for the city. A public hearinf on the proposed changes is scheduled for September 6th.

University of Minnesota salutes 2022 Farm Families of the Year

Eighty-five farm families and operations, the most in recent memory, were honored in August by the University of Minnesota at the 2022 Farm Family of the Year ceremony. The farms were recognized in a ceremony at the annual Minnesota Farmfest on the Gilfillan Estate near Redwood Falls. An 8-year-old Winthrop girl was critically injured when she was struck by a pickup in Winthrop Monday evening. The state patrol was called to the incident around 6:15 pm on Highway 19 at North Redwood Street. Authorities say a semi driven by Scott Sondag was parked on the shoulder of Highway 19. The 8-year-old stepped outside of the semi and was struck by a pickup driven by Jerry Mortensen of Maple Grove. The girl was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Neither driver was hurt. Winthrop Police and ambulance, Gaylord and Gibbon police and the Sibley County Sheriff’s Department all assisted at the scene.

Renville County murder suspect in court Monday

(Olivia MN-) A settlement conference takes place Monday for Renville County murder suspect Bradley Westphal. Westphal, 37, is charged with 3rd Degree Murder for allegedly giving a woman pills that said they were Percocet but were really fentanyl July 19th 2021, killing the woman. He will appear before Judge Laurence Stratton in Renville County District Court in Olivia at 1 p.m. Monday.

Suspect arrested in series of thefts in Redwood County

(Redwood Falls MN-) The Redwood County Sheriff's Office thinks they've solves a series of local thefts with the arrest of a suspect near Walnut Grove. Just before noon Thursday a deputy stopped a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle believed to be involved in recent thefts in the area. The stop led to multiple arrests and the recovery of a stolen motorcycle and stolen golf carts in Redwood County. The incidents are still under investigation.

Longtime New Ulm city worker speaks out about bereavement policy

Last weekend, Andersen’s brother passed away. “A loving brother, and I went to work to try to keep my mind off of it very much.
