Officials contend apartment dwellers not paying fair share in The Villages

Community Development District 7 supervisors are contending that apartment dwellers are not paying their fair share for the upkeep of The Villages. CDD 7 supervisors have hired independent attorney Michael Eckert who has been researching the assessable acreage formula which sets out the amount of money each CDD pays toward the upkeep of The Villages. Residents fund the upkeep, from flowers to multi-modal paths, through their maintenance assessments.

CDD 10 slams door on resident’s request for accommodation for big truck

The Community Development District 10 Board of Supervisors has slammed the door on a resident’s request to accommodate his oversized truck. The board split 4-1 on Thursday on the request for a 9-foot-wide garage door from Terry Hovanec in the Village of Antrim Dells. The Crown Point, Ind. resident and his wife purchased their home at 3867 Fenster Lane in 2015 for $335,300. They had been living up north, but have been transitioning to full-time residency in Florida’s Friendliest Hometown. To complete their lifestyle here, they need an accommodation for the big truck.

A woman riding in a car with Pennsylvania license plates was arrested after a traffic stop at the Village of Marsh Bend. Vickie Rhymer, 51, of Wildwood, was traveling as a passenger in the vehicle at 1:44 a.m. Monday when it was pulled over for a traffic stop, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. The Ohio native was found to be in possession of a glass pipe and she admitted she uses it to smoke cocaine. She was arrested in 2017 after admitting to smoking cocaine with a pipe.

Apartment complex will drive more traffic onto Rolling Acres Road

An new apartment complex in Lady Lake will drive more traffic onto Rolling Acres Road as well as County Road 25. The Lady Lake Commission on Wednesday night signed off on a site plan for the 288-unit apartment complex, which will include nine buildings, featuring amenities to include a clubhouse and pool, maintenance building, mail kiosk, five garage buildings, dog park area, and children’s playground. The parking lot will include 627 parking spots, which means it is anticipated each unit will have occupants with at least two vehicles. The complex will be located on 24 acres of land, located at the southwest corner of County Road 25 and Griffin Avenue.

Man with criminal history arrested after alleged attack on lady friend

A Wildwood man with a criminal history was arrested after an alleged attack on a lady friend. Sumter County sheriff’s deputies responded at 6:54 a.m. Wednesday to an apartment in Wildwood where a woman was heard screaming. A deputy entered the apartment and took 40-year-old Stephen Charles Scarlott into custody. He declined to speak to deputies.
