Photos: Beaumont students win back to school shopping spree at Academy

Twenty-five Beaumont ISD students and their families gathered at Academy Sports + Outdoors on Friday to reap their reward for early school registration. BISD community relations' Debbie Bridgeman says registering before July 31 helps schools and teachers better prepare their classrooms and schedules for the incoming number of students. When Academy Sports + Outdoors approached the district with an offer to help families with back to school supplies, Bridgeman noted it was the perfect incentive to urge early registration. Over 7,500 students pre-registered before the July 31 deadline, and 25 students were randomly selected to spend $100 apiece during the shopping spree.

A Christian bookstore is coming to Beaumont

A Mardel location will be coming to Beaumont soon. Mardel, a Christian bookstore chain, has 38 locations in 11 states. The company was founded by Mart Green an heir to Hobby Lobby, which was founded by his father David Green. The Mardel corporate office in Oklahoma City confirmed that the store would be coming to Beaumont. The only other information the corporate office was able to offer is that construction started on April 5.

Silsbee Ice House Museum home to prehistoric fossil

There's no bones about it - Silsbee's Ice House Museum is home to the oldest piece of Southeast Texas history. It's an ironic truth, considering the exhibit earning those bragging rights is indeed all about the bones. The artifact sits atop a pillar at the museum's entry, the first step in a timeline of Silsbee history that stretches throughout the museum's first floor. Inside are the remains of a prehistoric rhinoceros dating back at least 10 million years.

Beaumont Farmers Market now accepts SNAP benefits

BEAUMONT, TX — The city of Beaumont host the Beaumont Farmers Market every Saturday morning from 8am till 11am under the Beaumont Athletic Complex pavilion. Rain or shine the farmers market carries the tagline of "locally grown, locally raised, and locally made" while offering homemade jams, sweets, soaps, and everything in between.
