The Sierra Native Alliance’s Youth Leadership group has created a memorial quilt to properly honor missing, murdered indigenous women in the Sierra Nevada region, as well as bring more awareness to MMIW Remembrance Day, that takes place each year on May 5. The quilt’s unveiling ceremony took place on Friday, Nov. 18, at the Truckee Recreation Center.

A stray dog that survived more than five weeks on her own, during which time she was hit by a car and suffered injuries, is finally rehabilitated and ready for adoption. Estrella was first spotted in Tahoe City back in February. It took several tries and several weeks for animal control to rescue her. In that time, she was reportedly hit by a car and suffered injuries. The Christmas season is here and the Eastern Plumas Angel Program is underway. The trees and wreaths have been placed with pink and blue angels for community members to take. The angels can be found at the Graeagle Market, Mohawk Community Resource Center, Leonard’s Market, Plumas Bank, Feather River Co-op, and 7-11. Gifts purchased for needy children must be new and unwrapped and delivered to Plumas Bank and/or Plumas Sierra Rural Electric Cooperative by Dec. 9.
