84-year-old found safe at residence in Shiawassee County

SHIAWASSEE COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) - Police have located an 84-year-old man about six hours after he was reported missing Monday morning. Shiawassee County 911 says Steve Janicek was last seen around 9:30 a.m. driving east on Lytle Road from M-71 in Caledonia Township. Authorities say Janicek returned home safely around 3 p.m.

Judge targets fall for start of trial against Mark Latunski

SHIAWASSEE COUNTY, Mich. - Mark Latunski, the man who allegedly murdered and mutilated Kevin Bacon, has been found competent to stand trial once again. Latunski's lawyer and the prosecution appeared in Judge Matthew Stewart courtroom in Shiawassee County on Wednesday afternoon to question the individual who conducted the most recent competency evaluation of Latunski.

Genesee judges disqualify themselves from hearing criminal case against county clerk

GENESEE COUNTY, MI -- Every Genesee District Court judge in the county has disqualified him or herself from hearing a criminal case against Clerk-Register John Gleason. Chief Judge Christopher R. Odette said Wednesday, May 11, that he has asked the State Court Administrator’s Office to refer the case to another county, pausing the prosecution until a new judge has been assigned the case.

October trial possible for man accused of killing Swartz Creek native

SHIAWASSEE COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) - A judge in Shiawassee County again has found Mark David Latunski mentally competent for trial in the 2019 death of Kevin Bacon. Judge Matthew Stewart found Latunski able to understand and assist with his defense Wednesday after a new round of competency testing. The judge hopes to schedule Latunski's trial for October.
