The Nebraska Corn Board is seeking petitions for its District 5 Director, which includes the counties of Buffalo, Dawson, Hall, Howard, and Sherman. The position was reopened in an effort to seek candidates from the district and allow enough time to gather farmer signatures. Appointment to the District 5 position will ultimately be made by the Governor of Nebraska. Any candidate for appointment may place his or her name on the candidacy list by filing a petition with the Nebraska Corn Board. Qualified candidates include those individuals who are citizens of Nebraska and reside within District 5, are at least 21 years old, have been actively engaged in growing corn in the state for a minimum period of five years, and derive a substantial portion of their income from growing corn.

Clerks at Buffalo, Sherman county businesses cited for selling alcohol to minors

KEARNEY — Three businesses in Kearney and Loup City have failed alcohol inspections. On March 25, Nebraska State Patrol investigators conducted the inspections at 35 businesses in Buffalo and Sherman counties. Three business — Margaritas and Joy’s Table in Kearney, and Colony Inn in Loup City — sold alcohol to a minor. Two businesses failed to check the minor’s identification, an NSP news release said.

The man was sentenced to 30 to 40 years in prison for first-degree sexual assault of a child. Loup City man faces jail time for child abuse in 2019

LOUP CITY — Felony sexual assault charges against a Loup City man have been reduced to misdemeanors. Lloyd Criffield, 75, pleaded no contest Monday in Sherman County District Court to two counts of misdemeanor child abuse of a then-10-year-old and a 14-year-old on July 4, 2019, in Sherman County. In exchange for his pleas the charges were reduced from two counts of felony third-degree sexual assault of a child, which alleged Criffield had sexual contact with the victims.
