VOA to Launch Mental Health Crisis Stabilization Services in Sheridan and Cheyenne
Volunteers of America Northern Rockies (VOA) is set to break ground on several building projects that will enhance existing services and improve access to care for the wide range of clients they serve. Following mergers with Peak Wellness Center and Northern Wyoming Mental Health Center, Volunteers of America has become the largest provider of behavioral health services in Wyoming. According to information from VOA, they’ve been awarded over $4-million from the Wyoming State Land and Investment Board to enhance existing behavioral health facilities. Projects include regional crisis stabilization facilities in Cheyenne and Sheridan, and women’s substance use disorder treatment in Cheyenne.

Sheridan County’s new Sheriff names Undersheriff
The Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office has seen some changes in leadership over the last month. Sheridan County Sheriff Levi Dominguez had served as Undersheriff for the department for the last four years. Now, as Sheriff, while appearing on Sheridan Meida’s Public Pulse program, he took the opportunity to thank the residents of Sheridan County and told listeners thanks to the staff at the Sheriff’s Office and the Detention Center, the transition is going well.

NAMI to begin self acceptance group meetings
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)-Sheridan has announced the formation of a peer-led support group for individuals dealing with mental health issues. Entitled, “Self-Acceptance-The Key to Recovery,” the group will use a workbook developed by local psychologist Victor Ashear and will be facilitated by Charlie Farkas and Natalie Perkins. The subjects covered include factors promoting self-acceptance, factors that undermine self-acceptance, building healthy relationships, and self-acceptance and recovery.

Sheridan College is continuing to show signs that enrollment numbers have recovered from the covid pandemic. As of the end of the fall semester of last year, full term enrollment at the main campus was up nearly 4% compared to end of fall semester 2021, and the Johnson County campus was up 42%.
