SIDNEY - When Joe Julius first agreed to take on a substitute teaching role for Western Nebraska Community College's Aviation Maintenance program, he assumed it would only last for a week or two while the college found a permanent instructor. Council Receives Trail Update

The Sidney City Council on Nov. 23 heard an update on a project designed to upgrade the trail system adjacent to East Old Post Road. The project traces its history to a ½ percent Occupation Tax applied by Cabela's. Early this year, the Occupation Tax was defined with a balance of about $740,000. Initially, the council discussed how to use it, are there options on where to use it and what can be done with the balance.

Missing Man Connected To Local Homicide Near Johnstown Rescued

A missing man connected to a local homicide was rescued last week after being held hostage. According to the Weld County Sheriff's Office via Facebook, 26-year-old Oscar Eduardo Valles Avila - who had been missing since the night of Saturday, Nov. 20 - was rescued during a massive, multi-agency operation conducted by the Weld County Regional SWAT Team and the Weld County Sheriff’s Office Strike Team, along with the assistance of the Sedgwick, Phillips and Logan County Sheriff’s Offices.
