Atlantic County needs poll workers for early voting

Atlantic County election officials need poll workers for the nine days of early voting in October, officials said. The daily pay was set by statute 19 years ago at $200 a day. On a regular Election Day, poll workers start between 5:15 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. and work to 8:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., said Atlantic County Board of Elections Chair Lynn Caterson.

Atlantic commissioners to vote on more staff, storage for election superintendent

NORTHFIELD — Superintendent of Elections Maureen Bugdon may soon get some help in dealing with the demands of early voting and other changes in how elections are conducted. The county Board of Commissioners will introduce an ordinance Tuesday to establish a deputy superintendent of elections, who under state law must be of the opposite political party from the superintendent.

Early machine voting on track for October

We’re glad to see the counties and state will be prepared for early voting on secure machines at special polling ahead of Election Day in November. The Legislature passed the necessary bill in the spring, Gov. Phil Murphy signed it and the Atlantic County Board of Elections quickly began testing the electronic registration books that would make it possible.

Atlantic County recount finds impulsive ballot creativity voids votes

The recent exhaustive recount in one of the contests for a seat on the Atlantic County Commission provided an excellent lesson in how not to vote. There has been much public education about how to vote, including by political parties concerned that it be done for their candidates. Apparently, however, many people could use some basic advice about what not to do, especially when voting by mail.
