UVA basketball recruiting rundown: ‘Hoos in contention for a few top 2023 recruits

As summer basketball recruiting action edges into the fall with players narrowing down their lists and making official visits to schools, the Virginia Cavaliers are in contention for a few different top 2023 recruits. With center Blake Buchanan having committed in early July, UVA is still in the market for three additional players including a point guard, shooting guard, and power forward.

The bronze statue of Robert E. Lee that was the rallying point for white supremacists on Aug. 12, 2017 has been out of sight for over a year. But it is far from out of mind. It’s now the centerpiece of Swords Into Plowshares, a community art project led by the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center, which intends to melt the statue down and use the metal for a new public art piece.

Nashville animal shelter gets 40 of 4,000 beagles removed from Virginia facility

A West Nashville shelter has received 40 beagles from a facility in Virginia. The beagles are a small number of the 4,000 that were removed from an Envigo facility in Cumberland, Virginia. The facility, which bred dogs to be sold for animal experimentation, faced a lawsuit from the Department of Justice in May after federal inspections showed dozens of violations including dogs receiving inadequate vet care, insufficient food and living in unsanitary conditions.

15 beagles rescued from Virginia breeding facility brought to Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. - Fifteen of the 4,000 beagles rescued from a Virginia research facility in July are now in Orlando and will be looking for their forever homes. Staff with the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando traveled to Virginia over the weekend and brought back several beagles that were removed from Envigo, a medical contract breeding facility in Cumberland, Virginia that has been accused of having unfit conditions.
