Midwest Theater to host Organ Trail Zombie Invasion event

The zombie apocalypse is finally upon us, or at least it will be on Saturday, Oct. 16, when zombies take over Broadway in Scottsbluff for the Organ Trail Zombie Invasion. The event, which is sponsored by the Midwest Theater, Western Nebraska Community College, Panhandle Public Health and Scotts Bluff County Health, will be a day of spooky, yet healthy, fun. It kicks off that Saturday morning with a mobile vaccination clinic from 8 to 10 a.m. PPHD and Scotts Bluff County Health will host the clinic for free, which provide COVID-19 vaccinations to anyone 12 and up, although a parent or guardian must attend with individuals between the ages of 12 and 18.

VFW plans Veterans Day parade

The VFW Post #1681 is in the midst of making plans for the 2021 Veterans Day Parade. A parade was not held in 2020, but is being planned for 2021. According to a press release from Tom Arends, VFW Post 1681, the organization is hoping to have as many participants in the parade as possible.

GERING – The City of Gering Planning Commission will hold a regular meeting and public hearing regarding annexation of properties described in Resolution 9-21-5, all located within the extraterritorial zoning jurisdiction of the City of Gering, in Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska. The meeting and public hearing will be held on Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. at Gering City Hall Council Chambers, 1025 P St., Gering. At the conclusion of the public hearing, the planning commission may make a recommendation to the Gering City Council.

Epidemiologist: Deaths due to COVID-19 are preventable

Panhandle COVID-19 case levels aren’t letting up as health officials reported more than 360 cases during Panhandle Public Health District’s weekly briefing. Panhandle health officials are reporting 368 new cases of COVID-19 were reported last week. On the county level, Scotts Bluff County reported the most cases, with 184 cases. Box Butte reported 58 cases, Cheyenne, Dawes and Morrill counties are seeing similar activity, with 32, 30 and 26 cases reported, respectively.
