Big Diamond Speedway Results - 06/18/2021

Results from Friday night at Big Diamond Speedway. Craig Von Dohren returned to his winning ways Friday night at Big Diamond Speedway. Von Dohren aboard the Dave Dissinger owned No. 88X won a spirited battle with 2020 champion Mike Gular to take his first of the season at the Schuylkill County dirt oval. For Von Dohren it was his 99th career victory at the speedway. The Limited Late Models returned to the track for the first time this season with Travis Mease taking the win. In the Crate 602 feature, it was Brandon Edgar winning in dominating fashion. The Roadrunner feature was postponed after five laps were run due to rain and lightning; the balance of the feature will be completed at a later date.

Schuylkill County Golf Tournament Has No Winners, Unusual Prizes

About a hundred people compete in a Schuylkill County golf tournament where the score doesn't really matter. Every year, just under 100 people from the Northern Lehigh area play a round of 18 holes at White Birch Golf Course in Barnesville, Schuylkill County. It's called the Emerald Open and everybody gets a small prize no matter how many strokes it takes to finish. Organizers said it's the most relaxing round of golf they play since no one is there to win.

Even though the Hazleton Area School District will receive approximately $55 million in federal pandemic relief, the business manager recommends a tax increase. Business Manager Robert Krizansky said spending pandemic funds on salaries and general costs this year could open a budget deficit too large to fill by raising taxes in the future. The state sets a limit on annual property tax increases, which districts can only exceed in the unlikely event that voters agree to pay more in a referendum.

They were in front of the Frank D. Yuengling Mansion, waiting for the first-ever Youth Masquerade Ball to begin. Saturday’s ball was organized by the Schuylkill County Council for the Arts for high school students whose proms were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and for students to show their art in the mansion.
