Police in Kan. arrest Iowa man on Nodaway Co. warrant

ATCHISON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an Iowa man on allegations after an arrest in Kansas. On Wednesday, police arrested 34-year-old Samuel G. Pitts, 34, Iowa City, Iowa, on a Nodaway County, Missouri warrant for failure to appear on a charge of non-support, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

State Volleyball Championships Coming To St. Joe

The Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Wednesday announced they have selected the Civic Arena in St. Joseph to host the volleyball championships beginning in the 2025-26 school year. The agreement would also includes the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years.

Skidmore holds citizen town hall

The Skidmore City Council held a town hall meeting which included some council work, September 20. Discussion was held on electrical repairs needed at the sewer plant to run the floats and pump that activate the trickle wheel. Sean Slocum, S and S Electrical, estimated the cost to be between $1,800 and $2,100. The council approved hiring the firm for the float and pump repairs at $1,800 and the business was to communicate additional costs if the repairs are not done without going over the $1,800.

Kan. man with a history of crime accused of domestic battery

ATCHISON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man for an alleged violent crime. On Tuesday, police arrested 46-year-old Arthur L. Bryant of Atchison on a District Court warrant for domestic battery, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson. He spent time in jail for domestic battery in 2021, according to online jail records.

Senior Center sees progress on freezer addition

The addition of a walk-in freezer at the Nodaway County Senior Center is taking shape as the ground has been broken west of the south door and being prepared for concrete. The Nodaway County Senior Citizens Senate also went over some additional factors in the acquisition of the freezer at the September 21 meeting. An account has been set up with US Bank for the Lions Clubs International Hunger grant which is paying for the appliance. Maryville Host Lions member Joe Baumli has been named the construction manager as part of the LCI’s grant requirements. Baumli is also the vice president of the Senior Citizens board.

Suspect leads authorities on 140 mph police chase on Interstate 35

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office reports a deputy on Sunday noticed a vehicle allegedly traveling 140 miles an hour on Interstate 35 at the Holt exit. The deputy attempted to get the northbound vehicle to stop but the driver failed to yield and a pursuit began. The chase went to Cameron where the suspect then got back on I-35 and was headed south. The vehicle did stop because it struck spike strips that had been deployed by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
