Nebraska man found guilty of fatally stabbing fiancée while her 2 children slept

MALMO, Neb. (TCD) -- A man was recently found guilty of first-degree murder for killing his 27-year-old fiancée in their home while her two children were sleeping. According to KETV-TV, on July 15, 2020, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the victim’s 11-year-old son called 911 after discovering his deceased mother, Kayla Matulka. Upon further investigation, authorities concluded Matulka’s fiancé, Kolton Barnes, fatally stabbed Matulka and killed the family dog before leaving the residence.

Nebraska Man Convicted Of Murdering Fiancée And Dog While Her Kids Slept

A Nebraska man was found guilty of beating, strangling and stabbing his fiancée to death while her children slept nearby. Kolton Barnes, 27, was found guilty by a Saunders County jury on Tuesday on seven felony counts in connection with the murder of Kayla Matulka, 27, according to the Lincoln Journal Star. In addition to the first degree murder charges, Barnes was found guilty of child abuse for leaving Matulka's body for her young children to find and of animal abuse for stabbing his dog to death.
