Autopsy results have been released of a former Jacksonville resident who died while in custody at the Sangamon County Jail. 23-year-old Dylan Schlieper-Clark of Springfield and formerly of Jacksonville allegedly fell ill on April 14th at the Sangamon County jail and was transported by EMS to Springfield Memorial Hospital where he died three days later while in inpatient care.

Coroner: Inmate dies from natural causes

SANGAMON COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon recently released the autopsy results after a man was transported from the Sangamon County Jail to the Springfield Memorial Hospital on April 14 and died in the hospital three days later. The coroner said the results indicate Dylan Schlieper-Clark died from natural causes.

Local animal advocates have mixed reactions to the shakeup at Sangamon County Animal Control. As WMAY News was the first to report, longtime director Greg Largent was ousted this week and has been replaced with an acting director, Jeanne Keenan. The county has also hired a local veterinarian, Andrew Lehman, to serve as Animal Care Manager to ensure animals at the shelter receive proper care. Several local advocates say that while they don’t know Keenan, they are very pleased with the hiring of Lehman, whom they describe as competent and capable.

There’s differing data on the total number of deaths related to COVID in Sangamon County… with a fairly wide disparity in the numbers. The county’s official numbers, reported daily on its website, puts the total number of local fatalities related to the virus at 378 as of Monday. A 23-year-old Sangamon County Jail inmate who fell ill in April and later died at a Springfield hospital died of natural causes. Coroner Jim Allmon says Dylan Schlieper-Clark died of complications from meningitis, according to autopsy findings. While he did have a small amount of illegal drugs in his system, Allmon says it was not enough to be a contributing factor in the death. Schlieper-Clark was transported from the jail to Springfield Memorial Hospital on April 14th and died there three days later.
