Luling Watermelon Thump celebrates watermelon market, growers

LULING, Texas - Since 1954, Luling has been celebrating the town's watermelon market and honoring growers through its annual Watermelon Thump. Hermon Allen, principal of the Luling Elementary School, proposed the idea of a celebration. A contest was held to name the event and the winner was a young man from Luling High School, Mr. Carol Ferguson. Since that time, the Thump has been held the last Thursday through Sunday in June.

Local marketplace and restaurant opens in Drip

Dos Olivos Market opened in Dripping Springs last week, celebrating with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Dripping Springs Chamber of Commerce. The ribbon cutting took place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 16. It was followed by a grand opening event with live music, vendor tables and a number of food and drink samples. This is the fourth location for the Texas marketplace — with existing locations in Wimberley, Buda and Harlingen.

Lonestar Kolaches now open in former Little Red Wagon building in Round Rock

Lonestar Kolaches opened in a building formerly occupied by Little Red Wagon Hamburgers on June 18. Owners Massey and Allen Wallace own six other Lonestar Kolaches locations in the Austin area, all of which offer traditional sweet kolache pastries, egg kolaches and sausage kolaches. Lakewood Brewing Expands Distribution with Favorite Brands

DALLAS, Texas – Lakewood Brewing Co. has partnered with Favorite Brands Distributing to expand its reach to stores throughout the state. The family-owned independent craft brewery will now have expanded distribution in Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Waco, College Station, and other major central Texas cities. Shelves in stores like HEB, Spec’s, Total Wine & More, Kroger, and Whole Foods will now feature Lakewood’s Temptress – Imperial Milk Stout, Muy Importante – Margarita Lager, and Tangerine Queen – Citrus Wheat, along with seasonal and limited releases like Lakewood’s popular Seduction Series, Watermelon Queen, and the Mechanical Series.
