San Juan Hand Therapy has announced that Diana Davis successfully passed the Hand Therapy Certification Exam, earning the credentials Certified Hand Therapist. Davis is an occupational therapist with over 5,000 hours of direct upper extremity clinical experience. She has worked for SJHT for three years. She works with patients to help them return to work, sports and hobbies through individualized treatment approaches.

Prescribed Fires Successful in San Juan National Forest

The San Juan National Forest accomplished successful implementation of all planned prescribed fires this spring. Fire and Fuels Management Staff from the Columbine, Dolores, and Pagosa Ranger Districts implemented prescribed fires while conditions allowed throughout April, completing operations the first week of May. Forest-wide, a total of 3,131 acres were treated with prescribed fire to meet defined ecological objectives. These lower-intensity fires reduce hazardous ground fuels and lessen the risk of unplanned large wildfires, while improving vegetative conditions for wildlife habitat and forest health in ponderosa pine stands.

Helping the river for a quarter of a century

A memorial dedicated to the work of the Animas River Stakeholders Group was dedicated Friday along the bank of the river in Silverton, downstream from the confluence with Cement Creek. The memorial is a circle of stone seats using historic mining equipment donated by the San Juan County Historical Society and rocks donated by the Bureau of Land Management. It honors 25 years of work by the group to improve water quality in the Upper Animas River. The Animas River Stakeholders Group was founded by Bill, Peter and Steve Fearn.
