DoorDash Opens Second Virtual Kitchen

DoorDash has opened a second ghost kitchen, this time in San Jose, California. The new location will serve as a hub for six Bay Area and national restaurants. The new DoorDash Kitchens location offers delivery to San Jose, Saratoga and Campbell, California, as well as pickup orders. It joins the original location in Redwood City, California, which opened in 2019.

One of California's most famous pastrami purveyors is now available in San Jose

Pastrami sandwiches, Korean fried chicken and desserts with a cult following are now available under one roof from a new San Jose ghost kitchen. The new operation is a pop-up version of DoorDash Kitchens, following the delivery company’s first ghost kitchen in Redwood City. Opening Thursday, the hub is slinging food from the popular Aria Korean Street Food in San Francisco, the famed Canter’s Deli in Los Angeles, local Indian chain Curry Up Now, dessert favorite Milk Bar in New York, grilled cheese chain the Melt and bubble tea chain YiFang Taiwan Fruit Tea.

UC Davis alumnus opens first home-based restaurant in Alameda County

Akshay Pradhub, a pioneer in the home restaurant industry, discusses legalizing home restaurants, creating his app Foodnome and opening Bao House. UC Davis alumnus Akshay Pradhub, who graduated in 2015, recently opened the first legal home restaurant in Alameda County: Bao House in Berkeley. He is also the founder of the app Foodnome, which certifies home cooks, allowing them to prepare, cook and sell their dishes to the public from their own home kitchens. As an undergraduate student at UC Davis, Pradhub studied neuroscience, but he said that he always had a passion for sharing his homemade bao buns with his community; he just did not see a cost-effective way to do so.

Freedom McDonald’s celebrates reopening

WATSONVILLE—More than 100 people gathered in front of the newly rebuilt McDonald’s restaurant on Freedom Boulevard Tuesday for a grand reopening celebration. The business, located at 1598 Freedom Blvd., replaces the one originally built in 1974, which had remained at the same location until demolition began earlier this year. In an interview at that time with the Pajaronian, Martin Guerrero, whose family owns the local franchise, said the project was eight years in the making.
