As much as San Mateo head football coach Jeff Scheller tried to get his team to take Oakland seriously, it took a scoreless first quarter to get the Bearcats’ attention. Despite dominating the opening 12 minutes and getting into the red zone on their opening two drives, San Mateo found itself in a scoreless tie.

Starters suddenly out, Stanford to face UCLA shorthanded

When football finally returns to Stanford Stadium on Saturday, the team will have to defend their home field shorthanded. Junior running back Austin Jones, sophomore running backs Casey Filkins and EJ Smith and fifth year safety Noah Williams have been ruled out for Saturday’s game against No. 24 UCLA (2-1, 0-0 Pac-12), head coach David Shaw announced on Tuesday.

FIU offensive line rallies around its center, who lost both parents in 2021

Dontae Keys can’t imagine the sorrow. Keys’ teammate, FIU Panthers center Api Mane, lost his mother, Siusavaii Mane, to liver cancer in March. She was 61. Mane had left the University of Kansas’ football team toward the latter stages of the 2020 season in order to care for his mom in East Palo Alto, California, 10 minutes from Stanford’s campus.
