Fire crews contain a vegetation fire that threatened homes in Oceanside

Oceanside, CA–Fire crews contained a fast-moving three-acre vegetation fire near northbound Interstate 5 Saturday afternoon that threatened homes, according to authorities. Oceanside Fire Department, along with Cal Fire San Diego, Vista, Carlsbad, and Camp Pendleton Fire Department units responded to reports of the blaze at 2:21 p.m. in the southeast corner of Interstate 5 and Highway 76, just east of the Harbor Cliff condo community, according to Oceanside Fire Battalion Chief Jessamyn Specht.

California Police shot and killed an armed man on the sand in Huntington Beach on Saturday amidst large crowds present for the annual U.S. Open of Surfing. Police said they received reports around 3:15 p.m. of a suspicious man with a gun at Huntington City Beach, according to a statement released on social media Saturday night.

Two Oceanside restaurants damaged in fire

Two downtown Oceanside restaurants suffered “significant damage” as a result of a fire that broke out Saturday morning, Oceanside fire officials reported. The fire started about 10 a.m. at Benito’s Pizza Café on Mission Avenue near Freeman Street, said Oceanside fire Battalion Chief Jess Specht. The blaze then crossed over into the neighboring attic of Angry Chickz.
