Utah tops 500,000 total COVID cases Friday; 9 new deaths

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah topped 500,000 COVID cases since the pandemic began last year, with 1.672 new COVID-19 cases Friday, along with 9 additional deaths. Among the new cases, school-aged children accounted for 358 of them, including 148 cases in children ages 5-10, 96 cases in children ages 11-13, and 114 cases in children ages 14-18.

Utah COVID-19 update: 9 more COVID-19 deaths, 1,672 new cases in past day

UTAH, Sept. 24, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Department of Health on Friday reported nine more COVID-19 deaths in the past day. Also reported were 1,672 new cases documented in the same period, bringing the total to 500,698. Of those, 358 cases were in school children: 148 in children 5 to 10, 96 in children 11 to 13, 114 in children age 14 to 17.

A Utah Marine killed in Afghanistan last month was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery on Friday, with flags lowered to half staff in his honor in his home state. Marine Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover, 31, was among 13 American service members who died Aug. 26 in a suicide bombing outside the Kabul airport in Afghanistan amid the U.S. troop withdrawal. It was the deadliest attack on U.S. forces in more than 10 years during the prolonged war in Afghanistan.

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – The Utah Department of Health is reporting 1,598 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, September 23. A total of 499,026 Utahns have tested positive for COVID-19.
