Columbus Technical College offers tuition-free classes, textbooks

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - “We are happy to work with the state of Georgia and with our technical college systems of Georgia partners to make those opportunities available to students here,” says Denise Wells, Columbus Tech’s Director of Public Relations, “There are I think now over 80 courses that fall under that parameter that will allow students to attend essentially tuition-free.”

LEE COUNTY, Ala. (WTVM) - A Lee County jury has convicted a man for trafficking methamphetamines, says Lee County District Attorney’s Office. During the trial, Assistant District Attorney Madison Grantham, the lead prosecutor, presented evidence that Kenneth Thrower had more than 40 grams of meth in his possession after the Opelika Police Department executed a search warrant.

Mercer University gets grant to develop autism resources

MACON, Ga. — The Mercer University School of Medicine hopes to make a difference in the lives of rural Georgians affected by autism. Heaven Smith has two young boys with autism, but in order to get them tested for it, she had to drive all the way to Atlanta. She says she couldn't get resources until they got diagnosed. Mercer hopes their "Autism Toolkit" will help Central Georgians avoid that experience.

Opelika Police Officer Grant Gow has collected his second Life-Saver Award, this time for keeping a victim of a gunshot wound from bleeding out by applying a tourniquet. Gow, 26, said that he didn't know someone had been shot when he got the call just after midnight on June 7 of a robbery and assault with injuries at King’s Mobile Home Estates.
