James Leach

James Willard Leach, age 76, of Mooresboro, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021 at the Mission Health-Asheville Specialty Hospital. James was born Saturday, July 1, 1944, in Rutherford County, to the late James A. Leach and Priscilla “Cella” Price Leach. He was a graduate of Chase High School, class of 1962. James worked in textiles for many years. He worked at the John H. Montgomery Plant for over twenty-five years. He was a member of Hicks Grove Baptist Church an avid deer hunter and fisherman. James especially loved spending time with his family.

ROCKY MOUNT — Five local students have been selected to receive up to $12,000 in scholarship money through the Golden LEAF Foundation. Tuesday, the Golden LEAF Foundation announced that 215 rural North Carolina students were selected to receive the Golden LEAF Scholarship, including the four students from Rutherford County Schools, four of whom live within the county and one who resides in neighboring Cleveland County, and one student from Isothermal Community College.

Man dies in single-vehicle crash

MOORESBORO — A 49-year-old man was killed Thursday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash off N.C. Highway 120, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol. Danny Andrew Bull died in the 1:43 p.m. crash near Six Points. The crash also critically injured a woman passenger, who has yet to be identified. She was airlifted to Spartanburg Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, trooper J.K. Henderson said Friday morning.
