Suspect in custody following shooting in North Carolina

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office announced that deputies investigated a shooting that happened on Saturday night. Deputies said the shooting happened near Webb Road in Ellenboro. They added that the shooter is in custody, and there is no active threat to the community.

VA Medical Center updates visiting policy for Western North Carolina locations

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — The Western North Carolina VA Health Care System has updated its companion/caregiver visiting policy. As of Friday, June 24, 2022, facemasks will again be required on the grounds of Charles George VA Medical Center and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in Rutherford County, Hickory and Franklin. Additionally, children under the age of 16 are not permitted at this time.

Bostic, N.C. — A North Carolina man was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to killing an elderly woman and hiding her body.
