REACHH After School Returns to Talcott Elementary

With the start of the new school year approaching, REACHH-Family Resource Center is pleased to announce the return of their After School Program to Talcott Elementary School. After a long hiatus, they are excited to be back at the home of the Pirates. Beginning on September 6th, students will be provided a full meal, assistance with their homework, and have an opportunity to participate in many crafts and activities throughout the 2022-23 school year. The program will also be making its return to Hinton Area Elementary School, continuing its strong tradition of service to students in our area. After School at both schools begin at 3:00 and concludes at 5:30. Applications for the REACHH After School program will be available at each school's open house event. There will be additional applications in the front office of both schools for parents who are unable to attend. Parents can also pick up applications at REACHH's main office, 411 Temple Street in Hinton. Spots for the After School Program are limited and awarded on a first come first serve basis. Summers Co., WV (Hinton News) - County Route 12/2, Madams Creek Road, will be closed at milepost 0.39 beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, 2022, through Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, for a drainage structure repair. Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances may affect the project schedule. Traffic will be detoured along County Route 3/1 (Will Dodd Road) for 1.49 miles to County Route 12/1 (Broomstraw Ridge Road) for 1.62 miles to County Route 3/21 (Madams Creek Road) for 1.73 miles to WV 3. WVDOH expresses its apologies for the inconvenience this closure may cause citizens and guests to the area. Motorists are asked to obey all traffic control signs and devices and use caution while traveling around the work zone. Shady Spring man facing prison sentence for burglary

LOCHGELLY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Shady Spring man was sentenced on Monday for felony burglary in Fayette County. Reports from Fayette County Prosecuting Attorney Anthony Ciliberti Jr. indicate that Anthony Baisden of Shady Spring was sentenced to 1 to 15 years in prison for felony burglary charges by Circuit Judge Paul M. Blake Jr.

Pair of auto dealerships sold in liquidation move

LMP Automotive Holdings, a Fort Lauderdale-based auto dealer, has sold two of its dealerships in Southwest Florida. LMP announced it has entered into agreements to sell its Kia dealerships in Port Charlotte and Cape Coral, in addition to Kia and Subaru dealerships in Beckley, West Virginia. The sales include the dealership and real estate assets, according to a statement. Financial terms of the deal — in addition to the name of the buyer — weren’t disclosed.

HOLLAND Myrtle Marie Holland, 92, of Hinton, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2022, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley. Born September 9, 1929 at Green Sulphur Springs, WV, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Cordelia Cales Ayers. Ms. Holland was a graduate of Sandstone High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of Lick Creek Baptist Church at Sandstone and was a lifelong resident of Summers County.
