Another COVID-positive resident of Moffat County has died. Memorial Regional Health says the person died in the Emergency Department at the hospital Tuesday. The official cause of death will be confirmed by the Moffat County Coroner. Memorial Regional Health reports that four COVID-positive patients were in the hospital as of yesterday.

Routt County under Red Flag warning as dry, hot conditions continue

A Red Flag warning has been issued for Routt County as weather conditions make it ideal for wildfires to ignite and spread. Issued by the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, the warning will remain in effect until midnight Thursday but is likely to be extended into the weekend as conditions continue. Gusty winds, low relative humidity and dry fuels prompted the warning for areas above 8,000 feet.

Wildfire burning 2 miles north of Routt County border in Wyoming

A wildfire is currently burning in Wyoming just 2 miles north of the Routt County border, according to Wyoming officials. The North Fork Fire is located in the south Sierra Madre Range in Carbon County, Wyoming. It is believed to have been ignited by lightning and was first reported Sunday.

David Caddell hearing continued to June 30

A status conference was held Wednesday to review the case involving David Caddell, a South Dakota man charged with making multiple threats to public officials. Caddell’s attorney Kris Hammond said he did not have all the discovery evidence necessary to proceed with a hearing. Judge James Garrecht then set Caddell’s next status conference for 8:30 a.m. June 30.

Buzz worthy: Honey Stinger collaborates with CMC on new beehive

After 20 years as a Steamboat Springs-based company specializing in energy foods made from honey, Honey Stinger now has its first local, company-managed beehive. In partnership with Colorado Mountain College Steamboat Springs and biology professor Becky Edmiston, the Honey Stinger hive was installed last month in an electrified enclosure on the hillside above the college campus. The location is home to three other hives managed by Edmiston and the college’s student Beekeeping Club that started in 2012.

The total number of cases in Moffat County since the pandemic began is at 1,106. That is 38 new cases of COVID since last week at the same time.
