Osceola man facing charges connected to Hastings officer-involved shooting

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - An Osceola man is facing six felony charges connected to an officer-involved shooting in Hastings. Anthony Mattison, 33, is charged with attempted second degree murder; attempted first degree assault on an officer; terroristic threats; use of a firearm to commit a felony; possession of a firearm by a prohibited person; and possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine.

Hastings College esports experiencing expansion

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Hastings College esports is leveling up — in more ways than one. “We knew going into last year, even, that one room wasn’t going to be the long haul,” Hastings College Esports coach Andy Chase said. “There was that idea of, ‘OK, we need to move into a bigger room.’”

Crest Theatre a popular attraction in Superior

SUPERIOR, Neb. (KOLN) - The Crest Theater dates back to the 1950′s. People in Superior hope to keep the crowds coming well into the future at the Crest. We recently visited with Floyd Rothfuss, who played a large role in renovating the theater. We are told the theater is operated by the Southern Nebraska Arts Council. According to the Crest Theater website, the stated purposes of the organization are to promote the arts in Nuckolls County and the surrounding area through educational and community activities and events focused on the arts, through the renovation, maintenance and operation of the Crest Theatre, and through the solicitation of gifts, grants and bequests for the support of these facilities.

Hastings lowers property tax levy, many locals upset with budget process

HASTINGS, NE — The City of Hastings is lowering its property tax levy for the first time since 2016. The city council voted unanimously at its meeting Tuesday night to lower the city’s property tax request from the originally proposed amount of $7,721,186 to $7,497,280 - a difference of $233,906. The reduction sets the tax rate at $0.424342 per $100 of assessed valuation, about 3% less than originally called for.
