Laquey school goes on lockdown

Laquey schools were placed on lockdown Monday afternoon when authorities received a call about a gun on the school grounds. The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office says no threats were made in the incident at the school. “The teacher was aware and noticed a kid that was fidgeting so she pulled him out of class and discovered that he had a gun on him,” explained Pulaski County Sheriff Jimmy Bench. “The resource officers came, took control of the minor, called us and that’s when we went out there.” For more on this story see the LCR.

Multiple weapons found on a student at Laquey, Mo. school

LAQUEY, Mo. (KY3) - The Pulaski County Sheirff’s Office says school officials in Laquey found multiple weapons in a student’s possession at school. “The teacher noticed something odd about the child and recognized he was skittish and nervous and something going on. So she pulled the child out of the class and called the resource officer. The resource officer came in. (They) found a weapon on the child, loaded weapon on the child, and found several other weapons in a bookbag in a locker that belongs to the same child,” said Pulaski County Sheriff Jimmy Bench.

Oktoberfest will be coming to Fort Leonard Wood this Saturday

Oktoberfest will be coming to Fort Leonard Wood this Saturday. Sponsored by the Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Division, activities will include an Oktoberfest Volksmarch starting from Pershing Community Center at one o’clock in the afternoon. Those who want to participate should pre-register no later than Thursday by calling 573-596-6982 or registering online. The pre-registration fee is $25, which includes a commemorative mug filled with a beverage of choice, as well as one bratwurst or pretzel. Registration on the day of the event is $30. Oktoberfest itself will begin at 3:30 with the traditional keg tap at Pershing Community Center, followed by live music, dancing, food, barrel tossing, a stein holding competition, and more. Events will be open to the public. Non-Department of Defense I-D holders should stop at the Visitor’s Center for a day pass to enter Fort Leonard Wood. Be sure to have a valid photo I-D, current proof of vehicle registration, and proof of insurance on you when you come into the Visitor’s Center.

Charges Expected Following Pulaski County D.W.I. Crash

A Saint Louis man was taken to the Pulaski County Jail following a two-vehicle accident on I-44 at the 150.2-mile marker westbound at 6:00 p.m. Monday. The Missouri Highway Patrol reports that 57-year-old Robert N. Parnell of Saint Louis was driving while intoxicated when he changed lanes on the interstate and struck a tractor-trailer driven by 41-year-old Derrick D. Covington also of Saint Louis. Both vehicles ran off the right side of the interstate causing the tractor-trailer to overturn. Covington suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Phelps Health in Rolla. Parnell did not report any injuries and was transported to the Pulaski County Jail and is facing charges of driving while intoxicated resulting in physical injury, possession of marijuana, and careless and imprudent driving involving a crash.

Prior to this Friday night’s Homecoming football game, the Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce will host its annual “tailgate party,” Community Pride Night. This year, the location has changed. Instead of being in front of the 9th Grade Center as in years past, Community Pride Night will now be hosted in a more visible location, directly in front of the high school gym. Criminal Hearing In Phelps County Murder Case Scheduled Tomorrow

A criminal motion hearing and arraignment are scheduled for tomorrow in Phelps County for 38-year-old Michael Billingsley of Beulah, Missouri. Billingsley is charged with second-degree murder, domestic assault, and abandonment of a corpse in the death of Vanessa Bradfield of Beulah in Southern Phelps County on August 21st. Judge Kenneth Clayton denied a bond modification for Billingsley. It was determined during the hearing that Billingsley is a flight risk.

NHS blood drive is Oct. 25

Steelville High School’s National Honor Society will host an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Tuesday, October 25, from noon to 6 p.m. The goal is to collect 60 units of blood that day, which means they need about 75 donors to present to donate. Motorcycle crash kills mid-Missouri man

A Rolla man has been killed in a Sunday evening motorcycle crash in Osage County, east of Jefferson City. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 55-year-old Donald Mahaney was traveling on county road 722 when he went off the left side of the road, returned to the road, slid and went off the right side of the highway. The Patrol’s crash report says Mahaney was ejected from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
