Avon pizzaiolo wins World Pizza Champion

AVON, Conn. (WTNH) — In Connecticut, there’s a lot of discussion as to who makes the best pizza. Some say Pepe’s, while others say Sally’s or Modern. But a pizza place in the town of Avon has been named the world’s best. Michael Androw, the owner of E&D Pizza Company in Avon, was inducted into the “World Pizza Champions” at this year’s International Pizza Expo in Las Vegas.

Torrington restaurant owner takes over Main Street's Brinx Kitchen & Bar

TORRINGTON — Brinx Kitchen & Bar has a new owner. The restaurant and bar, tucked into a space next door to Toothpick and Manny’s Shoe Repair on Main Street, has a busy lunch hour and afternoon into evening cocktail trade, and seemed to be a perfect second step for Julian Sawyer, owner of Sawyer’s bar and grill, near Franklin Plaza.

Connecticut weight-loss camp surrenders license after state investigation

KENT — Camp Shane, a weight-loss camp that abruptly closed this summer, has voluntarily surrendered its license to state officials, according to the Office of Early Childhood. The shutdown was prompted by staffing-related issues according to the camp owner, but also came the same week the OEC and the Department of Children and Families announced an ongoing joint investigation into the summer camp.
