Three dead including Lincoln residents in crash near Kansas border

Richardson County, Neb. (KOLN) - In southeastern Nebraska, two Lincoln residents and another Nebraskan were killed in a two-car crash just north of the Kansas border. Around 3 p.m. Wednesday, Richardson County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene on Highway 75, two miles north of the state line. First responders say two cars collided head-on and all three people died at the scene.

A Nebraska native has returned home to film a Nebraska story, in large part because of a new state grant program for filmmaking. Adam Rehmeier, now a Michigan-based screenwriter and director, has been shooting his coming-ofage comedy, “Snack Shack,” in his hometown of Nebraska City as part of a six-week shooting schedule.

Tarkio Man Facing More than a Handful of Charges Following Atchison County Arrest

(ATCHISON COUNTY, MO) – A Tarkio man is facing more than a handful of charges following Atchison County arrest Monday. Just after 7:45 P.M. the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested 40-year-old Travis L. Kephart who is facing a felony charge for leaving the scene of an accident, as well as misdemeanor charges for failing to drive on the right half of the roadway, failure to display valid plates, no seatbelt, no valid license, and no insurance.

Officials say buried electrical cable stolen

NEBRASKA CITY – Omaha Public Power District crews repaired an electrical line on Budweiser Road after the existing power line was apparently stolen. Residents say erosion of dirt on F Road north of Nebraska City may have exposed some of the cable and enticed someone to cut it and pull it up from the roadway, all during the middle of the day.

Mills County Sheriff’s report, 8/18/22

(Glenwood, Iowa) – Sheriff’s officials in Mills County say no injuries were reported following a single-vehicle accident early this (Thursday) morning. Authorities say 18-year-old Jacob Hobbie, of Sidney, was driving a 2018 Dodge RAM pickup southbound on I-29 near mile marker 29, when the left rear tire blew out. The incident, which happened a little after 12-a.m., caused Hobbie to lose control of the vehicle. The pickup struck a guardrail on the east side of the road. A dollar amount of the damage is not available.

ELI windmill to find new home at Arbor Lodge early next year

An old windmill will have a new purpose early next year as an educational exhibit on the Arbor Lodge property. Volunteers from the Kregel Windmill Factory Museum and employees of LiftAllCrane of Bellevue spent the morning of Friday, Aug. 5, taking down an ELI windmill built in the late 1920s that served the Charles Mcvey family near Union for several years. The windmill will spend the fall and winter being restored to working condition by Nebraska Windmills in Syracuse and be galvanized by Valmont Industries of West Point before it is installed near one of the walking trails in Arbor Lodge State Park, said Issiaih Yott, executive director of the Kregel Windmill Factory Museum. Yott said the windmill installation will be accompanied by educational signage.

Fremont County Sheriff planning ‘Step Wave’

The Labor Day “Step Wave” is Aug.19 through Sept. 5. This “Step Wave” is going to be focused on Impaired Drivers. There have been four more motor vehicle deaths in Fremont County in 2022 than there were at this time last year. Three of the deaths were caused by impaired drivers.

Fire closes commercial building at Nemaha County Fair

AUBURN – The commercial exhibit building on the Nemaha County fairgrounds was closed early this afternoon after smoke was reported during the county fair. Agricultural Society President Jason DeBuhr said volunteer firefighters who were already on the fairgrounds inspected after smoke was reported in the commercial building. An electrical fire is blamed for smoldering in some ceiling insulation. There were no injuries and minimal damage.

City of Hamburg progressing on several projects

The City of Hamburg is currently working on several projects. The first project is a FEMA Street Project. The City has put out two bids on this project. The first bid was for doing the cement, asphalt and the gravel streets. The City had only one bidder and that bid was $900,000 over the allotment that FEMA has given the City, which is $617,462.00. The council rejected that bid on the advice of our engineer firm and also Iowa Homeland Security.

New school year begins next week

FAIRFAX R-3 The Back-To-School Night and Title 1 Meeting will be Tuesday, August 23. Classes will begin Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at 8:05 a.m. School will dismiss that day at 12:18 p.m. (breakfast will be served from 7:40 to 8:05 a.m. and the students will also be served lunch).
