Hispanic-owned restaurants bringing unique and distinct flavors to Roanoke

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — One way for anyone to experience Hispanic culture is through food and people in the Roanoke region have more choices now than ever before. If you want to take a quick trip to Peru, all you have to do is take a short drive to Inka Grill in Roanoke, where staples like rice, plantains and potatoes are elevated to dishes that appeal to both the eye and the pallate.

Blue Cow Ice Cream keeps growing; five locations soon in Virginia

A Roanoke-based ice cream company continues to grow across parts of Virginia. Blue Cow Ice Cream is now up to four locations — and already preparing to open number five. It started in 2017 when Blue Cow opened up near the foot of Mill Mountain by the Walnut Avenue Bridge. In the years since, they have established additional locations in Virginia Beach, Fredericksburg, and just last month, Richmond. It won’t be long for the fifth one: a lease is signed for another Richmond-area outlet in West Short Pump. WFIR’s Evan Jones has more:

Two local restaurants are highlighted for Hispanic Heritage month

Hispanic Heritage Month began on September 15th and will be celebrated until October 15th in the Commonwealth where many activities have been taking place. One way the state of Virginia is honoring the Latino, Latinx, and Hispanic communities is by highlighting restaurants that serve Hispanic/ Latino cuisine. Two of them Mannys Seafood, Soul & Mexican, and Cuban Island, are in our local area.

Latino's Taste is voted a favorite local restaurant during National Hispanic Heritage Month

Latino Restaurant chosen in the top 10 local eateries. From September 15 until October 15 National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated in the United States. Americans whose ancestry is from "Spain, Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Spanish-speaking nations of the Caribbean. It also coincides with the celebration of the declaration of independence in countries like Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua". Two local restaurants Mannys Seafood, Soul & Mexican, and Cuban Island have been recognized by the state of Virginia during this month of celebration and viewers of WSLS 10 News chose a third Latino's Taste as one of the 10 best places to eat in the Roanoke area.

Ursula’s Café has grand opening in downtown

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - In Roanoke, a new cafe opened. But this one has a twist, it’s a nonprofit donate-what-you-can style of food service. Ursula’s Cafe held its grand opening Saturday, September 24th. The restaurant and non-profit aims to be a welcoming spot to enjoy a nice meal or sweet treats.

Multi-Unit Marco's Pizza Partners Sign Agreement to Double Their Size

Brandon Hudson and Damion Mason were college friends who became business partners by building a portfolio of Marco’s Pizza restaurants in Virginia. They have five open locations and have just signed a new agreement to open seven more Marco’s Pizza stores in the Roanoke and Lynchburg areas over the next two-and-a-half years.

Marco's Pizza has signed a seven- unit deal for Roanoke and Lynchburg, Virginia, over the next two and a half years. Franchisees Brandon Hudson and Damion Mason currently have eight other stores in development across the state, including one slated to open by the end of the year, according to a press release.
