The Richmond Police Department conducted a memorial service to commemorate National Police Week, and honor officers who gave their lives in service of the community. The City of Richmond received two grants totaling $10 million from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) Clean California Local Grant Program. The program provides funds to local and regional public agencies, transit agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits to clean and beautify public spaces, including local streets and roads, tribal lands, parks, pathways, and transit centers.

We have a Water Comfort Class for those who might not be ready for a traditional swim class setting, due to fear, past trauma, or something else. The focus of this class is about learning to overcome what has kept you out of the pool so you can enjoy the simple pleasures of being at ease in the water. The Aquatics section is recruiting Lifeguards to work at our two indoor pools. We are hosting an Open House “Lifeguard Job Information Day” on Saturday 3/19 for potential Lifeguard candidates to come ask questions, try the Lifeguard pre-course skills, and just learn about what it takes to be a Lifeguard at our pools.

The last few years have been tough, but there is always a reason to express gratitude. Sometimes we have to find them in the smallest moments or victories. We would love to hear from our recreation participants, residents, and all of our community members. We hope to have this be an uplifting space for our department and community.
Adult swimmers who want to work out with a group, improve their stamina or refine their strokes with the aid of a swim coach, can join the Richmond Plunge Masters which has workouts multiple times per week at the Richmond Plunge. This program is run through the partner organization, Richmond Swims. The Richmond Swims website has contact information. Swimmers are also welcome to come for drop-in swims, regardless of ability, any time the Plunge or Richmond Swim Center are open (see schedule for info). Please note that proof of vaccine or negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours is required to enter.
