RCSD investigating after gun found in 7-year-old’s backpack

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– Deputies with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department say a gun was found in the backpack of an elementary school student in Northeast Columbia. On Thursday, authorities say a child at Sandlapper Elementary School notified an administrator that they thought a student had a gun. After searching the seven-year-old student’s backpack, administrators say they found a loaded handgun which was turned over to the School Resource Officer.

RCSD said a child at Sandlapper Elementary School notified an administrator that they thought another student had a gun. Staff searched the backpack of a seven-year-old and found a loaded handgun.

Deputies say man was found shot to death in front yard in Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Richland County deputies say a man is dead following a fatal shooting Monday night. Officers say they responded to the 7900 block of Richard Street in Columbia for reports of man who was unresponsive. When they got there, they found a man in the front yard who'd been shot. Deputies say they tried to revive the man but by the time EMS got there he died.
